And a 5 Star review - In February’s KGAge, we ran an
article on “Why Meetings Fail” from the book “You Lead, They’ll Follow”
by Daniel Kehoe and Stephen Godden.
I have this book at home
and have found it extremely useful when thinking about business issues.
There are literally thousands of hints and tips which are both simple
and practical.
The style of writing is simple to understand
(not full of confusing management gobbledegook), but probably the most
value gained from this book is that every issue, hassle and stress that
we experience as leaders and managers in business nowadays is addressed
in an honest no-nonsense format.
The authors tell us how it is
(stating the obvious we often already know) and more importantly how to
FIX IT. There is also a strong emphasis that we, as leaders, need to
take accountability for our own behaviour first in order to influence
the behaviour of others.
Over the months to come, we will feature some more of Daniel’s tips and, if you find these useful, go buy the book!!

assistance to leaders as they work… address the real problems facing
managers when working with people. A book that should be close at hand
for all managers.
Keith Mitchell, Organisation Development Manager, Burswood International Resort Casino.(At time of review)
I'm amazed at the obvious depth of knowledge and experience
in the area of people management. If a copy of this book could find its
way onto every manager's desk to be read, absorbed and practised by
her/him, most workplaces would undoubtedly benefit. I know it's going
to benefit me.
Julianne Quinn, Office Manager, Office of Senator the Hon Grant Tambling. (At time of review)

Book author: Daniel Kehoe
Six titles in the series: Developing High Performance Teams, Developing Your People, Effective Communication, Improving Leadership Effectiveness, Leading and Managing Change and Motivating Employees.
|
"Daniel Kehoe has a genuinely impressive background. A Certified Management Consultant and a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants, Daniel has worked around the world as a management consultant/facilitator since 1979.
He has spent thousands of hours working with over 8,000 managers, operators and service providers listening to and exploring what drives successful business performance and sustainable growth.
A few years ago he successfully published a best-selling book series, ‘You Lead, They’ll Follow. How to inspire, lead and manage people. Really.’
This new series of titles, under the rubric ‘Management in Action’, effectively presents six quick-grab manuals for managers who want to learn the basics and have something ready at hand when something goes wrong.
Each book is divided into 25 topics, with each topic filling just one double-page spread. With plenty of bullet-point lists, tables, charts and illustrations, the books read more as a ‘grab what you need’ manual than a ‘front to back’ book.
The content of the books is thoroughly useful, but neither surprising nor radical. In fact, Kehoe’s main strength here is his refined ability to:
- filter out the ideas that aren’t core to understanding his points
- prioritise ideas so that the reader gets to the real important stuff fast
- demonstrate arguments that convince, and
- communicate ideas with lively, colourful sentences.
These books will find broad appeal with managers with just enough time to take stock of their management practices, but insufficient time to sit down to a lengthy read.
In effect, the Management in Action series could not make the development task much easier. Rating: 9/10."
I found the books great... easy to read... not overly lengthy...a valuable resource to refer to when wanting to gain some quick ideas of actions to take when faced with a management dilemma.
... they provide a good variety of hints and tips, information, and tools to use in management. I especially liked some of the diagnostic tools and the various follow through actions that accompany them.
...as I was reading through the books, the thought crossing my mind was, "Wouldn't it be great if when first employed into a frontline management role, your manager gave you a set of these as a reference tool to support you?" I would have found them invaluable.
I would certainly recommend these books to others.
When you open one of Dan’s books you find a myriad of information. Incisive and punchy—like all of Dan’s work, it cuts to the core of the issues at hand, facilitating progress and improvement. Dan’s articles are action-oriented—a breath of fresh, invigorating air in a world that often theorizes too much…
Steve Wickham, Port Safety Advisor, Fremantle Ports
These excellent reference books should be kept within reach at all times. They are very practical, inspirational and informative books for all managers, team leaders and supervisors. The sections will provide you with solutions for just about every situation, problem or issue that today's manager has to deal with in relation to managing people. This complex subject of management is dealt with in a user-friendly style for the purpose of understanding and learning. This publication is compulsory reading.
